The Story of Domaine St Blaise

Nestled on the banks of the river Orb, just two kilometers from our Château Cazal Viel estate, lies Domaine St Blaise. The vineyard was originally farmed by a friend of Henri Miquel, Laurent’s father, and the estate came under Laurent’s care when the friend retired and his children chose not to continue. Laurent stepped in with a 50-50 partnership, and the first vintage was born in 2023, with a rosé and white wine blend.

A Vineyard of Many Varieties

Domaine St Blaise wines are uniquely a field blend, and there are many grape varieties in the vineyard, all co-planted. We recently acquired some old-vine Grenache and Syrah in a neighbouring parcel and the vineyard is home to both indigenous and international grape varieties - Marselan, Rolle (known as Vermentino in Italy), Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache, and others thrive together here.

While the estate produces red, white, and rosé wines, rosé is the flagship. The blend even includes up to 20% Rolle, a white grape that contributes a crisp texture and refreshing citrus notes to the wine.

Commitment to Organic Growing and Sustainability

The vineyard has always been organically farmed and is certified to the highest Swiss standards. This dedication reflects a long-standing respect for nature. Fittingly, Saint Blaise himself is associated with blessings of the throat—a symbolic patron for wines that are both delicious and sustainably made.

Surrounded by wild garrigue and hedgerows, the vineyard fosters biodiversity of flora and fauna. Grasses grow between the vines, while the nearby mountains channel cool breezes that protect the grapes from mildew.

Harvest and Winemaking 2025

Harvest at Domaine St Blaise began in late August, with old Grenache and Syrah vines showing remarkable quality. Grapes are fermented separately in stainless steel tanks before blending and maturation, also in stainless steel. Early tastings of the must suggest that 2025 will be an exceptional year for rosé.

We look forward to sharing the final results of the 2025 vintage with you soon.
