From Winter to Spring - the year so far

laurawinespecialis

Spring is our favourite time of year - birds start singing, mornings are brighter, days are warmer and there's such vibrant growth in the vineyards and hedgerows. Thankfully winter brought nothing out of the ordinary in terms of weather, allowing the vines to go dormant without disturbance, and we largely enjoyed crisp, cool skies. Temperatures were mild overall and rainfall remained moderate, but it was enough to see our lake replenished for the growing season ahead.  There were many breezy days with those famous Languedoc winds which are so critical for the freshness in our wines, and February was particularly blustery. Spring has now truly arrived and the wild flowers and cherry blossom are in bloom.

Pruning has been in full swing throughout the winter- it is one of the most important vineyard management tasks and is carried out during the dormant season, before the vines begin to bud. Done by hand by our vineyard team, vine by vine, it's an essential part of ensuring healthy vine growth for the vintage ahead.

In February, the team travelled to Paris to take part in Wine Paris, one of the most exciting trade fairs of the year. We proudly unveiled our new-look labels for the Night Harvest / Vendanges Nocturnes range and showed some new wines to enthusiastic clients, including an unoaked, co-fermented Syrah Viognier blend. Early March took us to London and the spectacular venue of One Great George Street, where our partners Mentzendorff hosted their annual portfolio tasting. Our new vintages were met with great enthusiasm, and we were delighted with the positive feedback and London looked wonderful under the lovely spring sunshine.

Looking ahead, the next few months will see us on the road again, travelling across Europe and further afield to meet with our partners and their customers, talking through and tasting our new vintages and latest releases.

Stay tuned to follow our progress in the vineyards and to read about our travels near and far!
